As the Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence through delivering outstanding code and working effectively within cross functional teams to enable outstanding customer journeys in line with required targets and regulatory requirements.

So what would you be doing?...
• Be the conduit of the architecture team into delivery teams, maintaining alignment with technical architecture and strategy with end-to-end domain accountability
• Leading cross-team working groups to champion standards, improve engagement and collaboration and drive enhancements by functional area
• Acting as a strong mentor and technical subject matter expert supporting the development and empowerment of engineers via pairing, quality reviews and knowledge transfers
• Maintaining a deep understanding of technical debt areas, set effective plans and deliver tech debt reductions and flag any risks to the relevant stakeholders
• Regularly update accurate records of software engineering and data in relevant tools and systems in line with company procedures
• Identifying and assessing current and future risk across key areas relating to tech projects you’re working on and flag/escalate issues to SLT

• Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
• Experience in working across multi-team, cross-functional Initiatives in engineering organisations of more than 20 - 25 engineers
• Deep technical knowledge of JavaScript and modern web application frameworks such as React, Angular or VueJS is required
• Experience using unit testing libraries by following engineering best practices on the front-end is also required
• Deep technical knowledge of the C#/.NET ecosystem, relevant IDEs and best engineering practices on the back-end
• Knowledge of MVC and ASP.NET and experience with migrating across modern front-end architectures
• Strong understanding of core web technologies such as HTML and CSS
• Experience building mobile-friendly web applications; using both adaptive and responsive design approaches
• Strong expertise in designing, implementing and maintaining highly-scalable distributed web applications and back-end distributed systems
• Commercial experience with integrating customer experiences into APIs and services in a micro-services ecosystem and with building self-serve APIs and underpinning services with a micro-services paradigm
• Experience in messaging-driven and event-driven architectures
• Experience with Git or other similar distributed SCM systems
• Experience with the Microsoft Azure Cloud Solutions platform and ecosystem
