Are you an experienced and engaging senior Learning & Development professional? Are you great at running projects and thinking strategically, managing changing priorities and adapting to the needs of a business to deliver capability and learning improvements?  Are you looking for a new challenge within a truly customer centric organisation that puts true value on its colleagues development? If yes, then we may have the role for you!

As Capability Manager within our Learning and Development team at Metro Bank, you will build excellent working relationship with stakeholders across the business, to enable you to provide advice, consultancy and to run projects concerned with the capability, learning and development needs of your stakeholders’ business areas. This role is one of 3 Capability Managers – this role will have responsibility for our volume banking business areas (Distribution and Operations). You will have extensive exposure across Metro Bank in this role.

Depending on the team, most of our roles offer flexible working. As your recruiter for full details for this role.

So what would you be doing?...

• Managing the relationship with and provide learning consultancy services for your key business functions – volume business banking
• Identifying, prioritising and delivering on the Learning and Development needs for those business functions
• Leading on the prioritization and delivery for your area, whist lifting the capability of those teams
• Managing and delivering project and stakeholder communication plans to ensure our Learning Team can support business needs
• Helping maximise the potential of the online Learning Management System to create a high-quality learning environment for colleagues
• Effectively establishing operational practices, review the effectiveness, and coaching and educating the team in capacity planning
• Leading a team of colleagues who will design, deliver and evaluate highly credible and motivational learning interventions that turn colleagues and customers in to fans
• Taking a structured approach to managing training plans and projects, recognising changing priorities and re-negotiating deadlines accordingly
• Working closely with Learning Team ‘Heads of’ to review, evaluate and highlight any areas of concern or improvement
• Leading projects and teams to design change and regulatory projects that support key business initiatives

You need to be this kind of person…

• Passionate about providing unparalleled levels of service and convenience for customers
• Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment
• Prepared to stick at something – we get nervous if someone has jumped from job to job as we want people who are prepared to learn and grow
• Care about doing a great job and exceeding expectations with the quality of what you do

And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the courage to call out any concerns.

We always support colleagues to develop their skills. But to be successful in this job you really do need to already be able to do most of these wonderful things...

• Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
• Naturally you will have extensive knowledge and experience within Learning & Development, including instructional design principles, learning technologies and Talent Management
• Good knowledge of data analytics, Diversity & Inclusion, and colleague experience will be key to excelling in this role
• You will be able to clearly demonstrate how you keep up to date with industry trends, technologies and design practices
• You will have experience leading and inspiring a team of learning and development professionals
• We are also looking for you to bring experience of managing hybrid teams, project management, coaching & mentoring, and mid-senior level stakeholder engagement
• You will be an expert in the design, delivery, and evaluation of digital, group and one-to-one learning that is outcome focused with a clear benefit to customer service
• You will have a strong ability to positively influence through written and face-to-face communication
• You’ll need to demonstrate the ability to plan and organise your work to deliver against tight deadlines
• It would be advantageous if you had a CITP, CIPD or equivalent training qualification as well as industry experience or qualifications in learning design, though these are not essential requirements

Important Footnote Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box.  We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked.  So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Please note that sometimes we may close a job earlier for applications if we are inundated with amazing candidates.. Good luck!
