Are you a leader in retail current account product design and management, a strong P/L manager who is a fluent communicator, with strong influencing and stakeholder management skills? Would you like to become an advocate for Metro Bank’s retail current account business? Can you lead and inspire a team to deliver in a challenging, fast-paced environment? If yes, then we may have the role for you!

As the Head of Retail Bank Accounts, you will take a critical leadership role to own and continue to enhance our retail current account propositions, helping the bank to challenge the norms of UK banking and deliver ongoing growth. You will lead a small team to set the strategy, develop and manage Metro Bank’s Retail transactional banking products – Current Accounts and Cash Accounts, as well as Safe Deposit Boxes, Private Banking Current Account and General Insurance. You will lead the development of new products and strategic projects for the bank.

Depending on the team, most of our roles offer flexible working.

So what would you be doing?...

• Having full ownership of your products, including P&L, pricing, performance, supplier management (for General Insurance providers), regulatory and risk management
• Owning and being accountable for the end to end product management of all retail accounts, SDB’s and General Insurance• Building on your knowledge of customer needs, market innovation and regulatory change, you will establish a vision and strategic direction for the team and a roadmap for delivery
• Leading a team that manages our retail bank account and general insurance products in the retail space
• Leading the key retail bank account initiatives – from tactical fixes and incremental improvement projects to larger, strategic programmes requiring cross-functional teams and coordination
• Making sure the Retail Accounts team is closely aligned with other business functions that support delivery of products to customers• Representing retail accounts in executive leadership meetings, risk committees and external meetings with regulators and third parties

You need to be this kind of person…

• Passionate about providing unparalleled levels of service and convenience for customers
• Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment
• Prepared to stick at something – we get nervous if someone has jumped from job to job as we want people who are prepared to learn and grow
• Care about doing a great job and exceeding expectations with the quality of what you do
• Tenacious and determined, seeing strategic opportunities where others only see barriers

And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the courage to call out any concerns.

We always support colleagues to develop their skills. But to be successful in this job you really do need to already be able to do most of these wonderful things...

• Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
• You will have proven experience owning P&L, risk management, sales and be able to draw insight and action from customer feedback
• You will have commercial and financial modelling experience (costs and income budgeting, forecasting and reporting)
• You will be able to set strategy and take new propositions to market
• Naturally, you will have experience working as a Senior Product Manager or a Head of in the retail banking products space.  You will have deep understanding of customer needs, regulatory requirements and market innovation
• You will have experience of leading teams to manage a range of products and executing propositional launches
• We need you to have an understanding of building and running partnerships with third parties

Important Footnote Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box.  We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked.  So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Please note that sometimes we may close a job earlier for applications if we are inundated with amazing candidates.. Good luck!
